Summer Activities

Swimming and Watersports: Take a dip in the lake just steps from your door, or head into town to enjoy the public beach in Nakusp, across the street from the playground.

Fishing: Well, this is angling country and the lake is only a skip from your door so bring your own line or borrow one of ours.  Anglers will find the lake teeming with rainbow and cutthroat trout, Dolly Varden and kokanee.

Golf: Wow!! So many great courses in such close proximity! Most courses don't require a tee time, but we are happy to set up tee times for you.

Walking/Hiking/Biking: Miles of trails and tracks for all levels of energy and fitness to enjoy! We have plenty of storage for bikes.

Kayaking: The calm waters of the Arrow Lakes make it an ideal place for kayakers.  Borrow our tandem kayak and enjoy the area from the water.

Boating: Bring along your boat and launch it from the Nakusp marina or MacDonald Creek to enjoy a day on the water.

Horseback Riding: For those who prefer a horseback ride over other modes of transportation, the Arrow Lakes region offers many adventures.  Backcountry roads and trails throughout the region can be accessed for exploring the wilderness.

Family fun: The Village of Nakusp has two children's playground, baseball diamonds and skateboard park, all within walking distance of the public beach.  We also have a children's play area equipped with a swing set, slide and sand box.

Winter Activities

Skiing: Ski Summit Lake Ski Hill, southeast of Nakusp, a small hill featuring a t-bar servicing 152 vertical m (500 vertical ft) and eight runs.  Revelstoke Mountain Resort offers over 4700 vertical feet of lift-serviced terrain accessing over 1500 acres.

For cross-country skiing, head to the Wensley Creek Cross-Country Ski Trails just east of Nakusp. From Summit Lake to Rosebery, glide across the open terrain along abandoned rail beds.

For a peak experience, local cat-skiing and heli-skiing operators take skiers and boarders to spectacular terrain in the Selkirk and Monashee Mountains.

Snowshoeing: As snow blankets the local mountains, Nakusp is an ideal destination for snowshoeing.

Snowmobiling: Abundant snowfall in the Selkirk and Monashee Mountains means snowmobiling is also a popular activity in the area.

Ice Fishing: Most of the region’s lakes (but not Arrow Lakes) freeze over in the winter. Box Lake, near Nakusp, is great for ice fishing.

Year Round Activities

Hot Springs: After a busy day of swimming, hiking, golfing or skiing, relax in one of the local hot springs.  Nakusp Hot Springs is an easy and picturesque drive from Bayview by the Shore.

Waterfront Promenade: Take an easy walk or bike along the Nakusp waterfront, then stop to smell the blooms and inspect the delicate designs of native plants at the Japanese Garden.  The Spicer Gardens is another great place to sit and enjoy the flowers.

History & Culture: The community’s mining history is well preserved at the local Nakusp Museum and in the nearby city of Sandon, once the centre of the world's largest silver-mining boom and now a fascinating ghost town.

Located in a former schoolhouse, the Nakusp Museum was built in 1912, and contains over 5,000 artifacts reflecting the lives of early settlers to present day residents.

Originally opened in 1892, the Leland Hotel may be the oldest operating hotel in BC. Despite modern restorations, the hotel has maintained much of its period charm.

Art: Visit local artists’ studios or stop in at one of Nakusp’s art galleries or gift shops to see local artwork on display.

Entertainment: Have dinner at one of the fine dining establishments and check out the local movie theatre for a fun night out.
