Located in the West Kootenay Region in South Eastern British Columbia, the Nakusp region enjoys mild winters, warm, sunny summers and easy access to major centres. Located in the centre of three different mountain chains (the Selkirk Mountains, the Valhalla Mountains and the Monashee Mountains) Nakusp offers spectacular views that are sure to impress any nature lover. Just 1 hour south of Revelstoke, Nakusp lies on the shore of Upper Arrow Lake. The Arrow Lakes are part of the Columbia River system, and due to the numerous natural hot springs dotting the area, the region is known as "The Valley of Hot Springs". Centrally located between Calgary (Alberta), Vancouver (British Columbia), and Spokane (Washington, USA), the Arrow Lakes valley is surrounded by mountains and smaller lakes. This leads to many recreational opportunities year-round including hiking, biking, fishing, water sports, snowmobiling, snowshoeing and all sorts of skiing.
Events in Nakusp: Canada Day (July 1st) - start the day with a pancake breakfast hosted by the volunteer firefighters, followed by a parade and activities throughout the day at the local community park. In the evening, there is a spectacular fireworks display at the beach. The Nakusp Music Fest (July 18-20) has an amazing line-up of bands. Check out their website on our links for details. The BC Day long weekend (August 2-4) always promises lots of activities in Nakusp, including the Build Bail & Sail, a softball tournament, and antique car show. Bring your lawn chair or blanket and enjoy Music in the Park at the gazebo every Wednesday evening during the summer. Check out the farmers market every Saturday morning for local art, crafts, produce and homemade goodies. Located between Kootenay Savings and What's Brewing on Broadway from 8 am until 1 pm. The Santa Claus Parade in early December is a highlight for young and old alike. The evening is rounded out by carol singing and refreshments.
